Syllabus of BA and MA
In Partnership with BBI LUX, HEC Marbella offers a 3-year Bachelor and a 2-year Master programs. Both degrees are recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg. This implies that the program is accredited and meets the quality standards required by the “Special Committee for Accreditation”, an official body supervising Higher Education Institutions (State official regulation of 27.04.2011).
ECTS – EUROPEAN TRANSFER CREDIT SYSTEM
Our programs fully comply with the general objectives of the Bologna Agreements which broadly aim to facilitate the construction of a “European Higher Education Space”. From the moment when they were signed, we have applied the principles of the agreements, including the implementation of the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System – ECTS.
Bachelor (3x60=180 Credits)
1st Year: 1620 hours of study including a Basic Operational Internship of 3 months
2nd Year: 1620 hours of study including an Advanced Operational Internship of months
3rd Year: 1620 hours of study including a management internship of 3 months
Master (2x60=120 Credits)
Two Years: 2980 hours of study including an Advanced Management Internship of 12 months
The number of hours per year is based on the ECTS criteria in the form of a numerical value allocated to each course unit (for a total of 60). They reflect the quantity of work each course unit requires in relation to the total quantity of work necessary to complete a full year of academic study at the institution, that is, lectures, practical work, seminars, tutorials, fieldwork (internships), private study – in the library or at home – and examinations or other assessment activities.
The grading system is based on the adequacy of the institutional grading system and the ECTS promoted by the European Community (Bologna Declaration).
UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME: 180 ECTS CREDITS
BACHELOR DEGREE IN INTERNATIONAL HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT
The BA Degree is awarded at the end of three years of study. It is described as “Career-oriented program”, meaning that it directly prepares students for professionals’ activities. Therefore, at the end of this program, students who graduate can, depending on their personal ambitions, directly enter the world of work or can continue studying for a Masters.
This program focuses on theoretical subjects (academic disciplines) and comprehension ability (hospitality operations and all related facilities). It provides knowledge of team working and decision-making. The program offers a combination of operational skills and solid business management knowledge, in order to enhance students’ knowledge of general management and finance, vital for this professional career path.
GRADUATE PROGRAMME: 120 ECTS CREDITS
MASTER DEGREE IN INTERNATIONAL HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT
The MA Degree is awarded after two years of study. This program aims to consolidate knowledge acquired during undergraduate training and to increase knowledge about the numerous aspects of business management. The program also offers students a range of specific skills leading to their selected specialization, enabling them to adapt to current industry requirements.
This program provides in-depth knowledge of research and critical analysis. Students will gain a firm practical understanding of the management trends that make a difference at an international level. Students learn the facets and techniques in the science of hospitality and tourism business management, focusing on objectives relating to their area of specialization. They learn to integrate different specializations and techniques in the broad framework of goal-oriented organizations and also apply management theory in their field of specialization.
The MA Degree is drawn up on the basis of IN-RESIDENCE workshops/assignments as "Major" and OFF-CAMPUS elective specialized topics in the following fields: Marketing & Sales Management – Human Resources Management – Financial & Accounting Management – International Management.
